Business Cards: Everything you Need to Know about Designs!

The first thing most people will notice about your business card is the colour, so choosing colours that match well is surprisingly important! However, colours can be fickle so always take care when choosing your scheme, and ensure that it will be appealing to your customers.

The next thing is the layout. Despite this coming second, don't discount it! A nice layout is very important for creating an appealing business card. There are no rules for this, so as long as the layout makes sense, and isn't too busy you're good to go!

And finally, the paper type. Deciding on a paper type may seem daunting at first, but we will explain the best option for nearly all business cards! It is recommended to use 350GSM, and Gloss paper to make your business cards really stand out! Not only will this add a shine to your business card, but it will be resilient.

Of course, these are just our suggestions, your business cards are yours to design! There are a world of possibilities out there for unique designs that stand out, so don't be shy!

Paper Types

There are many different thicknesses and finishes of paper, so much so that it can be a little overwhelming! Not to worry though, because we are here to explain the differences and show you which ones are best for your specific need. We have a handy table of Paper Sizes available on our website, and the most common finishes are as follows; Satin, Gloss, Silk, Matt, and finally Uncoated.

Uncoated is generally best for any kind of paper that will be written on. If you try to write on any kind of coated paper, your ink will just rub straight off. Gloss is great for giving your product a shiny, professional look, and is often used for leaflets. Silk doesn't really have a specific good use, it's a very good all-rounder for giving your products a nice soft finish. Matt paper gives your products a nice professional finish, but without the shine of Gloss, which is great for designs with a darker colour palette. For things like posters or images, Satin is a great high-end choice for really making your colours stand out without any shine getting in the way.

We offer many more types of paper, but we hope that this post has helped clarify what the most common ones may be used for. But of course, the final product is up to you the customer! We are here to provide advice and suggestions, but ultimately you have free reign on your personal designs.

Not Sure Which Product is Right for You?

As you can see from our website, we have many different products on offer, some of which seem very similar. As such, it can be confusing when deciding which product is perfect for you or your business. To make this a much easier process for you, you are more than welcome to drop us an email, or a phone call, or visit us in store if you can!

Our email response is roughly 1-2 working days, but if you can't wait then we can give advice over the phone or in our store. This way we can give you much more personalised advice on what product you should be using, and having a conversation can make it much easier to work out any problems you may be having. All of our products are completely customisable, so let us know what you have in mind, or leave the design to our team. We want your designs to be perfect for you, and opening up a conversation is the best way to achieve that.

Struggling with a Design? Leave it to us!

Here at RangePrint, we have a team of graphic designers that are here to help your designs come to life! If you have an idea of what you want your product to look like, then they can help to design it. This is a back and forth process, you send an idea, our team designs it and you get to review it. If any changes need to be made, or you simply don't like the design, that can easily be accomodated for, and our team will keep trying until we get you your perfect design! Never feel shy about asking for what you want specifically; we are here for you after all.

Our team can also handle more sentimental items, like photo albums. If you have a bunch of digital photos that you want in a physical format, then you can send those photos to us aand we can arrange them for you to create a completely unique album, made just for you. In short, don't worry if you don't have a product that is already ready to print; we can help you get your design to perfection before it ever touches paper!

How to Avoid Copyright

Avoiding copyright in your business design is vitally important. Not taking steps to avoid this can be detrimental, or even catastrophic for your business. Copyright is a way of protecting your intellectual property (IP). This typically includes things that you have personally designed. Any original artwork, or unique phrases fall within IP. Getting these recognised by law is good for protecting your property, but for small businesses, this can be very difficult.

The main point of this post is how you can avoid using copyright within your works. This can be quite tricky, as bigger companies tend to copyright everything they can. A good example however, is that while you cannot use McDonald's logo within your IP, they have no claim over that specific shade of yellow. Avoiding copyright is an absolute must, as any lawsuits can be very damaging to a small company, so be very careful with your designs.

In general, it is a good idea to come up with a completely unique design from your own brain. However, if you aren't a particularly creative person, this can be a challenge. Using copyrighted material for inspiration is completely fine, provided none of it makes it into the final draft of your work. Running your final work through a search engine before publishing it can be very useful, as it will flag up any matches and let you know if anybody else is already using that design. If you aren't sure, and would like some help, then you can send the work to us and we can review it for you and make any necessary changes.

Copyright can be very scary if you aren't sure about your designs, or if you don't know what counts as copyright, but in general it is very easy to avoid and isn't something to be too concerned about as long as you are careful with your designs.
